1979-1980 was a big year for the NHL. In a merger with the WHA, the premier ice hockey league absorbed four teams, including the Edmonton Oilers. Along with the Oilers came Wayne Gretzky, who promptly started rewriting the record books. Along with the "Great One" came his prized 1979-1980 Topps rookie card, which came in retail display boxes exactly like the one you are looking at here. Decked out with game action photos on the lid and the two long side panels, this vibrant 1979-1980 Topps Hockey retail display box is solid in showing VG-EX details, with deference to a 1 x 3/4" section of loss on the lid directly above the pop-up panel at top right and a small price sticker affixed to the front short side panel. For those with the cards and wrappers, this box is the cherry on top.
