Two famed arbiters have individually autographed these baseballs. Includes:
Ron Luciano: a lightly toned OAL Brown ball (grade “5-6”) signed on a side panel in black ballpoint (“6-7” strength). Among the most colorful umpires the game has ever known, Luciano (d.1995) chronicled his career in five different autobiographical works before taking his own life at the age of 57.
Frank Umont: the literal response to frequent cries of “The ump needs glasses!” Umont was the game’s first bespectacled umpire and called games from 1954 until his mandatory retirement in 1973. This moderately toned OAL Brown ball (grade “5-6”) is signed by Umont (d.1991) on a side panel in blue marker (“5” strength).
